The environmentally friendly home will be unique in many ways.
A family has been given permission to build an eco-home near Burnley complete with its own subterranean swimming pool.
Angie and Kevin Moore will demolish their four-bedroom bungalow in Burnley Road, Hapton, and replace it with a four-bed eco-home.
The new house, designed by Whalley-based Zara Moon Architects, will be situated and laid out to allow the main living spaces and outdoor terraces to benefit from the afternoon and evening sun. There will also be a dog room with dog shower.
The property will be split into two wings which allows the master bedroom suite to be separate from the other bedrooms.
The master suite is located to allow views of the garden, to have morning light and access to the terrace. The other bedrooms are East-facing with morning light and views of the trees.
Their plans, now approved by Burnley Borough Council, state: “The existing property is not suitable for contemporary or sustainable living and does not meet the living requirements of the applicants.
“The property requires a complete re-configuration, refurbishment and extension to be modernised, meet building regulations standards and work as a family home.
“The work required to improve the property would not be viable and would not justify the final result.
“Therefore the applicant’s chosen solution would be to replace the dwelling with a home which both meets their requirements and creates a contemporary rural, eco-home designed specifically to relate to the site.”
The eco-home will include a ground source heat pump, air recovery system, rainwater harvesting, solar PV energy generation, battery storage, a sustainable drainage system and triple glazing.
Materials will be locally sourced to reduce the embodied energy including cedar wood cladding to the external facade and natural random stonework commonly used throughout the rural area and greenbelt context.
